West Branch fell to Bellevue 61-6 in a River Valley Conference dual on Thursday in Bellevue.

Cale Donovan picked up the lone win for West Branch with a first-period pin at 170 pounds.

Kabela Records Double-double in Win Over Durant

New year, same old Cooper Kabela.

Kabela posted his fourth straight double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds as West Branch downed Durant 71-58 on Tuesday in a River Valley Conference South division contest in Durant.

The 27 points by Kabela paced fourth players in double figures as West Branch improved to 6-4 on the season and 5-4 in RVC play.

Beau Cornwell added 18 points, eight assists and four steals and Ben Thompson had 12 points for West Branch.

Tanner Lukavsky had 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals for the Bears.

Durant dropped to 4-4 on the season and 4-3 in RVC play.

West Branch lost three of its final four games to close out 2016.

The Bears started the new year on the right track on Tuesday.

Tatum Koenig had 22 points to lead West Branch to a 58-37 win over Durant in a River Valley Conference matchup in Durant.

West Branch improved to 7-4 with the win and moved to 6-4 in RVC play while Durant dropped to 2-9 and 2-7 in conference play.

Koenig had five rebounds and five steals to go with her game-high 22 points and senior Haley Mullinnix added 16 points, five assists and four steals for the Bears.

Senior Abby Knoop had eight points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in the win.

West Branch Snaps Losing Streak With Win Over Mid-Prairie

West Branch was looking for some momentum heading into the holiday break.

The Bears found it in a big way on Tuesday.

West Branch snapped a three-game losing streak with a 73-44 win over Mid-Prairie (2-5) in a River Valley Conference south division matchup in West Branch.

Cooper Kabela had this third straight double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Beau Cornwell had 19 points and five steals as West Branch improved to 5-4 on the season and 4-4 in RVC play.

Freshman Tanner Lukavsky had nine points, 15 rebounds and six assists for West Branch and Brett Schiele and Ted Bridges each chipped in with eight points for the Bears.

Koenig Just Misses Triple-Double as West Branch Falls to Mid-Prairie

Tatum Koenig came up just shy of a triple-double and West Branch came up just short of a win on Tuesday against Mid-Prairie.

Koenig had 19 points, 10 rebounds and nine steals but it wasn’t enough as West Branch fell to Mid-Prairie 60-57 in a River Valley Conference south division contest in West Branch.

The win was the fourth straight for Mid-Prairie (5-3, 5-2 RVC) while West Branch dropped to 6-4 on the season and 5-4 in RVC play.

Paige Miller had 16 points and Haley Mullinnix had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists for West Branch.

Mackenzie Heise added seven points, nine rebounds and two assists for the Bears.

Ali Butters had a game-high 21 points and Addie Rath had 14 points to lead Mid-Prairie.

Third Quarter Costs West Branch in Loss to Camanche

For three out of four quarters West Branch hung with Camanche on Monday night.

It was that one other quarter that cost the Bears.

Camanche broke open a two-point halftime game by outscoring West Branch 23-8 in the third quarter on its way to a 78-67 win in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup in West Branch.

The loss was the third straight for West Branch and dropped the Bears to 4-4 on the season and 3-4 in RVC play while Camanche improved to 7-1 and 6-1 in RVC play.

Beau Cornwell poured in 29 points and had four assists and four steals to lead West Branch.

Cooper Kabela had his second straight double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds and added five assists.

Freshman Tanner Lukavsky had 15 points while Ted Bridges had five rebounds and four assists for West Branch.

West Branch coach Jarod Tylee believed there were plenty of positives to take from his team’s losses to No. 12 Cascade and top-ranked Regina on Friday.

On Monday, the Bears turned those positives into a win.

West Branch snapped a two-game losing skid with a 57-45 win over Camanche in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup in West Branch.

Tatum Koenig had 22 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists as West Branch improved to 6-3 overall and 5-3 in RVC play.

Paige Miller added 11 points and four assists and Haley Mullinnix had nine points, seven assists and four rebounds for West Branch.

Mackenzie Heise grabbed seven rebounds for West Branch which closes out its December schedule by hosting Mid-Prairie on Tuesday.

Camanche dropped to 6-4 on the season and 4-4 in RVC play.
